UK Box Office June 19-21: JURASSIC WORLD Continues Reign, ENTOURAGE Bombs

9:10 AM

Jurassic World continued to defeat the UK Box Office with a relatively strong hold for a Summer blockbuster. The Take That concert was a dark horse and debuted in second place with $1.5 million. Also within the top 5 was Mr Holmes which debuted at number 4 and Entourage which underperformed by opening at number 5.

Elsewhere on the chart, The Longest Ride also bombed by debuting at number 7 with a mere $650,000.

Here is the top 10:
1. Jurassic World - $17.53 million - Week 2 - Down 42% - Total: $60.65 million
2. Take That Live 2015 - $1.52 million - Week 1 - NEW - Total: $1.52 million
3. Spy - $1.45 million - Week 3 - Down 40% - Total: $11.61 million
4. Mr Holmes - $1.17 million - Week 1 - NEW - Total: $.1.17 million
5. Entourage - $996,433 - Week 1 - NEW - Total: $996,433
6. San Andreas - $697,661 - Week 4 - Down 47% - Total: $16.92 million
7. The Longest Ride - $659,896 - Week 1 - NEW - Total: $659,896
8. Insidious: Chapter 3 - $455,775 - Week 3 - Down 58% - Total: $5.57 million
9. Secret Cinema: Empire Strikes Back - $448,160 - Week 3 - Up 10% - Total: $1.66 million
10. Mad Max: Fury Road - $338,716 - Week 6 - Down 45% - Total: $26.72 million

The top 10 made $25.26 million this week which is unsurprisingly down 33% on last weekend but is up 79.2% on the same time frame last year which saw a solid opening from The Fault in Our Stars.

Continuing its reign at number 1 this week was Jurassic World. The movie took in $17.53 million which is down just 42% on last weekend - this is a remarkable hold for a Summer blockbuster which usually see 50-60% second week drops. This strong hold suggests that the film may have long legs. The film's new total is $60.65 million and could go on to close with $100 million if it continues to perform strongly - however, I believe $85-95 is a more realistic closing point. The dinosaurs will take on the Minions next weekend - lets see how well the movie holds against them.

Debuting in second place this weekend is the Take That Concert 2015 - the movie was a one-off event which means that it will not be in the chart next week. The concert made $1.5 million.

Spy had another strong hold at number 3 this weekend - the movie dropped just 40%. The film took in $1.45 million which brings its 3 week total to $11.6 million. The movie only has one more week until Ted 2 enters the ring so expect it to have a chance at passing $15 million and climbing towards $20 million - Go Spy Go!

In 4th place this weekend is Mr Holmes - the film had minimal marketing but strong star power so 4th place seems like a suitable opening point. The film took in $1.17 million. Expect this to stick around as it will likely appeal to the older market. Mr Holmes is also critically acclaimed which helps make it even more possible that the film could go on to make around $5 million.

In 5th place, debuting with an underwhelming $996K is Entourage. At the start of the Summer season, many would have expected the movie to open higher but if you think about it - the film has terrible reviews and as far as I know, Entourage wasn't very popular in the UK as a TV show. Entourage will likely fall off fast once Ted 2 enters the ring. Expect Entourage to close with around $4-5 million.

6. San Andreas - the disaster movie certainly isn't a disaster for the studio behind it with another steady drop! Prediction: $19-22 million.

7. The Longest Ride - another poor opening for a Nicholas Sparks adaption and Britt Robertson. Prediction: $2-3 million.

8. Insidious: Chapter 3 - almost a 60% drop for the third instalment in the horror franchise. Prediction: $6.2-6.7 million.

9. Empire Strikes Back - a 10% increase on last weekend - the Empire is certainly not going backwards. Prediction: $1.8-2.2 million.

10. Mad Max: Fury Road - Now the oldest film on the chart, Fury Road is coming to the end of the road but has done solid business. Prediction: $26.9-27.5 million.
