UK Box Office September 4-6: STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON Holds the Top Spot, TRANSPORTER isn't Refueled

10:22 AM

Holding the top spot for a second week in a row is Straight Outta Compton - the first number 1 movie in a while to stay at number 1!. The music bio-pic took in $2.1 million this quiet weekend. No Escape also opened in the top 5 at number 3 with just under $1 million. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl also cracked the top 5 at number 5 with $660,000.

Also opening within the top 10 was Transporter Refueled which took 7th place, taking in $540,000. Just behind in 8th was American Ultra which performed just as dismally with $530,000. Dope did not crack the top 10 which is probably due to such a limited release.

Here is the top 10:
1. Straight Outta Compton - $2.10 million - Week 2 - Down 45% - Total: $8.93 million
2. Inside Out - $1.12 million - Week 7 - Down 39% - Total: $55.39 million
3. No Escape - $980,260 - Week 1 - NEW - Total: $980,260
4. Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation - $783,816 - Week 6 - Down 43% - Total: $30.80 million
5. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl - $663,753 - Week 1 - NEW - Total: $663,753
6. Pixels - $605,988 - Week 4 - Down 40% - Total: $11.65 million
7. Transporter Refueled - $541,606 - Week 1 - NEW - Total: $541,606
8. American Ultra - $534,108 - Week 1 - NEW - Total: $534,108
9. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. - $500,600 - Week 4 - Down 50% - Total: $9.16 million
10. Hitman: Agent 47 - $454,031 - Week 2 - Down 69% - Total: $2.96 million

The top 10 made $8.29 million this week which is down 36.88% on last weekend and is also down 20.22% on the same time frame last year which was also quite a slow and quiet weekend. However, unlike this weekend, last year's had no nation releases whereas 2015 saw Transporter Refueled and American Ultra open poorly when they should have cracked $1 million at least.

Holding onto the top spot for a second week in a row is Straight Outta Compton - the film took in $2.10 million, dropping 45% - this is one of the steepest drops on this weekends chart but it is expected for a second week drop. The critically acclaimed film has currently made $8.93 million in the UK and should go on to make $12 million or maybe even $15 million. Straight Outta Compton is a Straight Up hit!

Holding onto second place for yet ANOTHER week is Inside Out - in its 7th week of release, the animated film took in $1.12 million this weekend which is down just 39% on last week. Inside Out is definitely coming towards the end of its run and will likely see steeper drops from this point onwards - however, it still has time until Hotel Transylvania 2 so it may be in the top 10 for a few more weeks! The film has currently made $55.39 million in the UK and if it carries on the way its going, it should definitely pass $60 million by the end of its run.

The highest debut of the weekend was No Escape - the Owen Wilson thriller took in $980K - who would have thought that the highest debut of a weekend wouldn't even be able to crack the $1 million mark? No Escape hasn't really had that much promotion in the UK so it will be unpredictable how it performs from now on. No Escape has a 42% approval rating from critics but a 69% approval rating from audiences. The film will probably end up with $3.5-5 million or maybe more!

Staying at number 4 this week is Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation. The critically acclaimed spy film took in $784,000 in its 6th week of release. The film dropped 43% which is another pretty solid drop for the film. The film has currently look in $30.8 million and has the chance at reaching $35 million before the end of its run.

The second highest debut of the weekend was Me and Earl and the Dying Girl - this is a surprisingly high debut for this film as it didn't have an extremely wide release. The film should have appealed to fans of The Fault in Our Stars and Paper Towns - those movies saw extremely high second week drops so it will be interesting to see Earl's performance. The film took in $664,000 this weekend. The film has an 82% approval rating from critics and a 90% approval rating from audiences. Earl should go on to make around $2.5-3 million by the end of its run.

6. Pixels - the awful film survives another week with a solid hold. Prediction: $13-15 million.

7. Transporter Refueled - should have opened in the top 3, what a disappointment! Prediction: $1.2-2 million.

8. American Ultra - I was right...this film was too weird for mainstream audiences. Prediction: $1.2-2 million.

9. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. - The steepest drop this film has seen in a while. Prediction: $11-13 million.

10. Hitman: Agent 47 - Hitman got HIT with a near 70% second week drop. Prediction: $3.5 million.
