Spectre: Final Trailer Review, Box Office Predictions & Competition!

12:30 AM

So Spectre is only a couple of weeks away so it must be time to celebrate what is likely to be one of the biggest films of the year! This post will include a review of the final trailer, a little insight into how big the film could be box office wise and a very exciting competition!

Spectre is the 24th Bond film and will be directed by Sam Mendes (Skyfall, American Beauty). The film will star Daniel Craig (Bond, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). "A cryptic message from Bond's past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE". So will Spectre enjoy the same box office success and critical acclaim as Skyfall or has it just been overhyped too much?

Final Trailer Review

0:07 - looks like a location taken straight out of Furious 7 (and no, the 007 timing was not deliberate)
0:14 - looks like a location taken straight out of Mission: Impossible
0:21 - looks like a location taken straight out of Everest - this film is really taking advantage of films that have done well at the box office so far this year
0:30 - I went to a Uni Taster Lecture on Film Studies and the lecturer said that all of these names were just the cast and crew of the films - how interesting!
0:49 - I don't actually think this shot looks very real
0:54 - I think the dialogue here is quite smart and witty
1:02 - definitely the opening sequence

I actually haven't really been sold by any of the Spectre trailers - I liked Skyfall but didn't think it was as good as everyone said it was. I think the Spy genre has been very crowded this year with Spy, Man From UNCLE, Mission Impossible, Kingsman - Spectre really needs to make itself stand out. One thing we cannot deny is that Daniel Craig can hold a film very well and can definitely save most films even if the story is dumb - even though Spectre will likely be quite smart. Overall, I think this trailer is quite mediocre -it does what a final trailer is supposed to do and shows lots of action so I suppose in some ways it is a success.

Box Office Predictions

This film is going to be huge - probably not quite as huge as Jurassic World or Star Wars but it is almost guaranteed that this will join the billion dollar club. In the US, Skyfall debuted with $88 million and went on to make $304 million domestically. I think Spectre will have a higher opening and could reach $100 million. The film would probably close with around $300 million in the US - the market is so crowded with Mockingjay and Star Wars that the success of this movie could be forfeited. However, industry experts believe Spectre will open with around $96 million and finish with $260 million - I suppose the reviews and word of mouth will have a huge effect on the success of this film. In the UK however, Spectre is opening on a Monday which means that its weekend numbers will be Monday-Sunday - this means the number should be HUGE. Skyfall opened with $32 million so Spectre could do that or even better! Spectre may even beat Jurassic World and become the highest grossing film in the UK for 2015.

Competition

To celebrate the release of Spectre, we have teamed up with John Blake Publishing and are giving away a copy of DANIEL CRAIG - THE BIOGRAPHY which is written by Sarah Marshall.

Here is a little more info on the prize:

Author Sarah Marshall reveals how this Cheshire lad has grown to become one of the most successful actors of our time. His debut as James Bond in Casino Royale in 2006 was highly acclaimed and earned him a BAFTA Award nomination but it was his contrast between his roles in Skyfall and The Girl In the Dragon Tattoo that cemented his reputation as a genuine powerhouse talent. Skyfall was a box office smash and became the second highest grossing film of 2012. Daniel Craig’s own story is fascinating, from his poverty-stricken early years and a struggling fledging career to the assured, powerful screen-filling presence he is now. This fully updated biography examines the man who has supplanted Sean Connery as everyone’s favourite 007 actor and dives into his dalliances with high-profile celebrities like Kate Moss and Sienna Miller, as well as his current marriage to Oscar winning actress Rachel Weisz. Bond fans are anxiously awaiting the release of the next Bond film Spectre due to be released early November and which is bound to boost the iconic status that Craig has achieved making him the most memorable MI6 agent of all time.
